Great Scottish Swim
December 19th, 2009 by admin
I have been approached by one of my supporters, Chris Savage of Maidens to ask if he can swim the Great Scottish Swim next year in aid of Butterfly Events and Cancer Research UK. Fill your boots Chris! I have since then talked my brother Brian Yates and his work colleague Alan Grant into it aswell.
Do you fancy it? Are you up for the challenge?
The swim is 1mile long and takes place in Strathclyde Loch on 21st August. It is open to swimmers of all abilities. Highlights will be shown on tv later in the year. It is only £25 to enter- includes your entry fee, event pack (Great Swim swim hat to keep and timing chip), Great Swim souvenir medal and t-shirt, not to mention the huge sense of achievement.
Chris plans to make this into a sponsored event for our charity. Please get in touch if you would like to sponsor him. Brian and Alan are using this event as training for their sponsored Triathalon later in the year.
Strathclyde Country Park will provide the setting for the second staging of the British Gas Great Scottish Swim. Situated in North Lanarkshire in the heart of central Scotland, Strathclyde Country Park lies in 450 hectares of countryside in the picturesque valley of the River Clyde. Mature woodlands, rough wetlands, wildlife refuges and beautiful open parkland all surround Strathclyde Loch and provide a stunning backdrop to the numerous major sporting events that take part in the park. Strathclyde Country Park is firmly established as one of Scotland’s leading centres for outdoor recreation and is one of the chosen venues for the 2014 Commonwealth Games.
