Charity Karting Day

February 13th, 2010 by admin

22 teams-106 guys & 4 ladies, had a great day on Sunday 7th February at Emotion Karting, Ayr whilst raising funds for our charity taking part in our first sponsored endurance karting event.

CIMG9763

The 1st heat started at 10am and included, Formula Five, Mario Karters, Petrol heads,  GQC, The Racecourse road runners, JDs Racers & Bloo Bungle.  In heat 2 was, Village People, Flat oot!, AG Motorsport, Hill Billies, Air Kart, Bone-aparts, Isabelles Lot & The Goonies.  Lastly we had Toyko Drift, 3508, The Lungers, Stealth Bummers, GSK, Break Glass Emergency & Jammy Dodgers in heat 3.

There was a lot of testosterone & competitiveness on show, especially when the black flags were out!   Karters pushed during their 2 hour race to be the top 2 in their heat going forward to the hour long final in the evening.   Reaching the final was, GQC, Petrolheads, AG Motorsport, Bone-aparts, Tokyo Drift & Break Glass Emergency.

In preparation for the final we enjoyed music from JB Band,  had a visit from Special Guest The Stig, watched a karting showcase and had the finale run down from BBC F1 presenter Lee McKenzie.

The final result was in 3rd place, Tokyo Drift.   2nd place, AG Motorsport.  And in 1st place, Petrolheads.  Congratulations!!!

I would like to say well done and a huge thanks to all the teams, its not the winning, its the taking part that counts. It was a very successful day for our first time at Emotion Karting.  My thanks must also go to everyone who sponsored the Karters, to everyone at Emotion Karting, you were great.  To our resident band for the day, JB Band.  To The Stig for his guest appearance, and of course to BBC F1 presenter Lee McKenzie for presenting our prizes.  And we must not forget Dougie & John for the lovely buffet the racers enjoyed.

I am delighted to report we estimated on the day we will raise £4,400 from racers sponsorships and will be fully donated to Cancer Research UK.
