Visit to Dalmellington Guild
Monday, February 15th, 2010
I was invited to speak at Dalmellington Guild on Monday 8th February to share my story of Butterfly Events. I really enjoyed my evening letting the ladies know about who we are, what we have achieved and our future aims. Of course it was topped by the lovely tea I received! Thank you very much to the committee for inviting me along and also for the kind donation they made to our cause.

Saturday, February 13th, 2010
22 teams-106 guys & 4 ladies, had a great day on Sunday 7th February at Emotion Karting, Ayr whilst raising funds for our charity taking part in our first sponsored endurance karting event.
The 1st heat started at 10am and included, Formula Five, Mario Karters, Petrol heads, GQC, The Racecourse road runners, JDs Racers & Bloo Bungle. Lastly we had Toyko Drift, 3508, The Lungers, Stealth Bummers, GSK, Break Glass Emergency & Jammy Dodgers in heat 3.
There was a lot of testosterone & competitiveness on show, especially when the black flags were out! Karters pushed during their 2 hour race to be the top 2 in their heat going forward to the hour long final in the evening. Reaching the final was, GQC, Petrolheads, AG Motorsport, Bone-aparts, Tokyo Drift & Break Glass Emergency.
In preparation for the final we enjoyed music from JB Band, had a visit from Special Guest The Stig, watched a karting showcase and had the finale run down from BBC F1 presenter Lee McKenzie.
The final result was in 3rd place, Tokyo Drift. 2nd place, AG Motorsport. And in 1st place, Petrolheads. Congratulations!!!
I would like to say well done and a huge thanks to all the teams, its not the winning, its the taking part that counts. It was a very successful day for our first time at Emotion Karting. My thanks must also go to everyone who sponsored the Karters, to everyone at Emotion Karting, you were great. To our resident band for the day, JB Band. To The Stig for his guest appearance, and of course to BBC F1 presenter Lee McKenzie for presenting our prizes. And we must not forget Dougie & John for the lovely buffet the racers enjoyed.
I am delighted to report we estimated on the day we will raise £4,400 from racers sponsorships and will be fully donated to Cancer Research UK.

Butterfly Ball 2010
Wednesday, January 6th, 2010
Letters are being launched today for the lucky people who have pre-booked tables at this years top Ayrshire charity event.
We have launched a new method of payment/placement for this year to try to keep everyone satisfied with thier table position. All money must be paid no later than End of January, however the sooner you pay the closer your table will be to the dance floor. If you do not pay until after 31st January you table will have been sold to someone on the HUGE waiting list. I hope as a valued supporter you understand the need for this method of payment.
The count down is on…. 80 days !! I am really looking forward to seeing you all again in your glamourous outfits.
Love Lorna xx

Great Scottish Swim
Saturday, December 19th, 2009
I have been approached by one of my supporters, Chris Savage of Maidens to ask if he can swim the Great Scottish Swim next year in aid of Butterfly Events and Cancer Research UK. Fill your boots Chris! I have since then talked my brother Brian Yates and his work colleague Alan Grant into it aswell.
Do you fancy it? Are you up for the challenge?
The swim is 1mile long and takes place in Strathclyde Loch on 21st August. It is open to swimmers of all abilities. Highlights will be shown on tv later in the year. It is only £25 to enter- includes your entry fee, event pack (Great Swim swim hat to keep and timing chip), Great Swim souvenir medal and t-shirt, not to mention the huge sense of achievement.
Chris plans to make this into a sponsored event for our charity. Please get in touch if you would like to sponsor him. Brian and Alan are using this event as training for their sponsored Triathalon later in the year.
Strathclyde Country Park will provide the setting for the second staging of the British Gas Great Scottish Swim. Situated in North Lanarkshire in the heart of central Scotland, Strathclyde Country Park lies in 450 hectares of countryside in the picturesque valley of the River Clyde. Mature woodlands, rough wetlands, wildlife refuges and beautiful open parkland all surround Strathclyde Loch and provide a stunning backdrop to the numerous major sporting events that take part in the park. Strathclyde Country Park is firmly established as one of Scotland’s leading centres for outdoor recreation and is one of the chosen venues for the 2014 Commonwealth Games. L Clothing weekend
Wednesday, November 11th, 2009
The shoppers and drivers on Parkhouse Street on Sat 31st and Sun 1st Nov, thought Lisa Milne of L Clothing was crazy! The first with a Christmas tree in Ayr!! However she is not crazy she is very kind and the tree was part of our special weekend event in her fabulous store.
Lisa kindly donated 25% of each item sold during this weekend to Butterfly Events. We also had our memory christmas tree on display which all the customers thought was very moving, a chance to remember loved ones and people who are an inspiration to each of us. We raised a fabulous £400 through sales and £74 through donations which was fabulous for our efforts. Thank you to everyone who came in and especially to everyone who bought!!
If you have never been into Lisas shop, you must this weekend. She still has a few sale items from £20, unbeliveable bargins and also some stunning dresses for everyone.
Congratulations to the winners of our free prize draw which took place during the weekend, Andrew Johnson of Ayr who won L Clothing Vouchers. Eilidh Rankin of Ayr who also won L Clothing vouchers and lastly Fiona Baird of Crosshill who won a Begg Cashmere Throw. Well Done and thank you to all for taking part.
Lisa has again very kindly offered to donate 10% from each dress purchased for The Butterfly Ball 2010. Great excuse to flash the cash, you are donating to charity at the same time !!! Love it x

Butterfly Bazaar
Monday, October 26th, 2009
What another great success we had yesterday at our 3rd Butterfly Bazaar. I have been receiving great comments today from lots of ladies who were there. The Catwalk by Ayr College, produced by Maggie Rodman was wonderful, some fabulous talent in Ayrshire. Buller Reid went down a storm as did the shopping, you were all leaving with arm fulls. Thank you to everyone who came along, donated prizes or helped out in any way. We raised an amazing £8,500 more than ever before at this event. Thank you so much. Please email me with your comments about the day and I will add it to our book.
If you are interested in purchasing any of the items you saw on the catwalk or commissioning Maggie for a creation of your own, please contact her on magrod@hotmail.co.uk

Woodland Bay Hotel – special 2 night package donating to Butterfly
Thursday, October 15th, 2009
Are you in need of a wee break? Will you be celebrating an anniversary, birthday or hen-weekend soon? Looking for that perfect Christmas gift? Or thinking of a suitable corporate package to thank your staff or client this festive season? If so I have the perfect get away deal for you, with money being very kindly donated by the Forbes Family to Butterfly Events, in aid of Cancer Research UK.
Woodland Bay Hotel is a treasured find on the stunning shores near Girvan on the West Coast of Scotland, with quite simpy breath taking scenery. Imagine being lulled to sleep and waking to the sight and sounds of gentle wave caressing the beach, taking part in outdoor activities which you have always dremt of, and sampling fresh, home-grown supplied morning and night. This brand new, family run, 16 room hotel offers all of this plus more, complete relaxation with a top class family service.
Fully refreshed, I am speaking from experience when my friend and I stayed recently and throughly enjoyed our weekend. We were greeted and shown to our spacious, ocean view, twin room by Michael. Our evening meal was pre-booked in the restuarant attached to the fabulous farm shop where we enjoyed a 3 course a la Carte treat using all hom-grown produce. We would recommend the fillet steaks! On the Saturday we relaxed at the local Pebbles Spa using all facilities and enjoying our spa treatments. In the afternoon we browsed the boutique shopping in the local towns and enjoyed a stroll along the beach. Ending the day with another fabulous 3 course meal, served by Patrick & Vivienne. Our Sunday breakfast was served until 11.30am giving us a long lie! Enough time to peruse the farm shop buying gifts before heading home to the husbands and kids! Only 1 complaint, we didnt book long enough, a week would have been nice, maybe the next time.
The surrounding area offers activities for everyone, young and old including rambling, shopping, fishing, golfing and horse riding. Never a dull moment along the Ayrshire Coast.
The Forbes Family of Woodland Bay Hotel , are big supporters of Butterfly Events and have kindly agreed to donate £10 for every 2 night package which is booked from now until Sunday 25th October, quoting BUTTERFLY, in conjuction with our next event ‘The Butterfly Bazaar’. If we manage to book 501 weekends they will double the donation to £10,000, which would be a massive boost to our fund-raising and for CRUK.
We need your help. Please tell everyone you know about this special offer, it is a fabulous deal, a perfect getaway for any occasion and you will be supporting Cancer Research UK at the same time.
For more information please log onto Woodland Bay website www.woodlandbayhotel.co.uk or call Gillian on 01465 710700.
