Butterfly Events have been enjoying fun in Ayrshire, in aid of Cancer Research UK since 2007. Lorna Dempsey started fundraising following the death of a close friend to Breast Cancer. Her friend raised both money and awareness of cancer before she died and Lorna was inspired to continue her good work. So the idea for the Butterfly Ball was born – a ball which was affordable for everyday people.
The first Ball took place at The Princess Royal Suite at Ayr Racecourse on 3rd March 2007 raising £14,000 for CRUK. We continued our fund-raising that year with our Butterfly Bazaar, Ladies Lunch which raised £6,000. So in our first year we raised £20,000.
The Ball 2007 was only ever meant to be a one-off but due to its tremendous success and the high demand from guests at each event since we continue our voluntary hard work, adding different events to our calendar all the time. To date our supporters have raised a fabulous £209,000, which is helping fund ongoing research into all types of Cancer in the UK. As a team we have also won some fabulous awards along the way, which we are very proud of. See Lorna above with her Cancer Research UK Flame of Hope Award, for Volunteer of the Year.
Cancer Research UK, is the UKs leading cancer charity, dedicated to beating cancer through research. The charity will spend 80p from every £1 we fund raise directly on research. They receive no government funding, so it is very important we continue our good work.
I would like to thank all of our supporters, over the past 7 years, very much, you have raised this fabulous amount. I hope you will continue to support our events and cause into the future. If you have never been to a Butterfly Event, I look forward to seeing you at one soon! Much Love Lorna xx
Butterfly Events aims are :- to organise fun, exciting, affordable events for everyday people whilst raising much needed funds for this fantastic charity and highlighting the importance of cancer awareness.
